Persian Motel

These kids, traveling with thier parents during the Iranian new year (No Ruz) holiday, amuse themselves in the ruins of an old caravanserai near Abyaneh.

Caravanserias were the motels of the ancient world - a place where you could eat, sleep, and get a brief respite from your journey. In thier heyday, there were over 1000 caravanserias in Iran, spaced out every 40km or so along the caravan routes.

Today, approximately 128 survive.
